Khewra salt mine

Khewra salt mine is the world’s 2nd and Asia’s biggest salt mine, producing over 300,000 tonnes of salt a year.

The mine’s Crystal Valley, pictured here, is a tunnel in an area with crystalized white and pink salt that lights up beautifully under colored lights.

The salt deposits were discovered in 320 BC when Alexander the Great’s army was passing through this area and noticed that the horses were licking the rocks. These days, it is a popular tourist attraction and contains a spa, a mosque made from salt bricks and numerous caverns of all types.
